Gavin Mulholland

Gavin MulhollandGavin began training at an early age with his father, who taught judo and unarmed combat to British Forces in Northern Ireland in the 1960s.

When Gavin moved to England he took up Goju-Ryu Karate and in over 30 years he has travelled throughout Asia training in Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and China in arts as diverse as Aikido, Judo, Ju-Jitsu and Kyokushinkai.

Today he holds a 6th Dan in Goju Ryu karate and is Chief Instructor of Daigaku Karate Kai London. His MMA team DKK Fighters competes  successfully in the Cage, most notably Ultimate Challenge World Heavyweight Champion, Neil Grove.

A former lecturer in psychology with 15 years’ experience of door-work, Gavin is uniquely placed to write about the reality of traditional karate training and actual combat, which he does with great flair and insight.
